Theme 3 Training the next generation of researchers
Please refer to the French version
REPAR's goals for this theme
1. Introduce the next generation of researchers to a multidisciplinary and networking-focussed clinical research culture early in their training;
2. Help offset the shortage of researchers in the field of rehabilitation.
Program 3.1- Summer Student Program
Familiarize students with the reality of rehabilitation research. This program is designated for Quebec students registered in a undergraduate or professional Master's program.
Program 3.2 - Summer "Quality of Life Program" workshop on writing scientific articles and grant applications.
Give students registered in a postgraduate study program and emerging researchers in rehabilitation the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills in writing scientific articles and grant applications. Provide students with a national networking opportunity early in their training. This summer workshop (http://www.fhs.mcmaster.ca/rehab/programs/mscrehabsci/workshop.html) is offered by the CIHR Training Program in Rehabilitation Research - Developing and Using Rehabilitation Research Evidence to Enhance Quality of Life (Quality of Life Program, one of the strategic training programs of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Program 3.3 - Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Strategic Training Programs
The Strategic Training Initiative in Health Research (STIHR) was implemented by CIHR as a way for Canada to increase its competitiveness internationally in attracting new, bright, creative research talent and to ensure innovation and excellence in the next generation of Canadian health research training programs (http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/22174.html). REPAR is one of the sponsors or collaborators for four of these strategic training programs offered to students registered in a postgraduate program (Master's, doctoral or postdoctoral level):
• Strategic training programs specialized in the evaluation of the musculoskeletal system for which REPAR is a sponsor:
- CIHR Training on Mobility and Posture Deficiencies (see also http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/11183.html); - Alberta Provincial CIHR Training Program in Bone and Joint Health (see also http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/11173.html);
- Work Disability Prevention CIHR Strategic Training Program (see also http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/28877.html).
• Strategic training program specialized in rehabilitation and quality of life for which REPAR is a collaborator; - CIHR Training Program in Rehabilitation Research - Developing and Using Rehabilitation Research Evidence to Enhance Quality of Life (Quality of Life Program) (see also http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/28551.html).
Program 3.4 - Integration of postdoctoral candidates
Promote the integration of Quebec, Canadian or international postdoctoral candidates into the research and networking activities of REPAR members.
Program 3.5 - Support for students wishing to present at scientific events
Help a student who is registered in a postgraduate program and who is the primary author of an oral or poster presentation participate in a scientific event by paying a portion of the student's registration fees, the cost associated with producing the poster or travel-related expenses.
